Sweet Potato!

Awww, baby is the size of a sweet potato now (and your uterus is about the size of a cantelope)! 18 weeks and going strong. :) Baby has become increasingly mobile, passing the time yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing! Something you won't see on the ultrasound, but is now in working order, is your baby's nervous system, which is maturing rapidly at this time. Nerves in the brain are also specializing into connections that will serve the senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. Your baby's hearing is also growing more acute, making your little one more conscious of the sounds that come from in and out of your body.

Week 17

Week 17-
Baby's skeleton is hardening, turning from rubbery cartiledge to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. The umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger and finger and toe prints are forming. Baby may start getting hiccups now, they are common at this stage and completely harmless!

Dr. appt

Everything went great! We were advised to expect a BIG baby- Dr said he is already over 6oz, (avg. for now is about 4 oz- 6 is where we should be by the end of week 17) and is measuring a week ahead now. Baby was being all modest for once, so we were not able to get the 'for sure' confirmation on gender. Dr moved up his % guess to 85% but said he still wouldn't reccommend we take the tags off of anything just yet. Heartbeat is still super strong.

I asked the Dr about my crazy resurgence of nausea and his response was "Just remember you wanted to be pregnant!". Totally made H and I laugh... He said that there really isn't much to do about it, baby is growing well so he is getting plenty of nutrients, and its just something I'm going to have to deal with. He did give me an Rx for sleeping meds, said that would help a ton- hopefully he is right!

We were so busy looking for gender that the Dr didn't get any new pics of the baby. We do have our u/s video, but no new snapshots. Four more weeks until the next appt... Hope it goes fast!
Love to you all!

Open letter to baby P...

Dearest little one,
I am so glad you are growing strong and healthy. I love feeling your flips and flutters and it fills me with so much love and joy to know that you are inside.

The past couple days you have been sooo active everytime I eat something. I know you love it when there is food in my system (me too, honest!) and that you are showing your excitement by letting me know your there.

However, the reason there is not food in my system more often is that every time I've eaten something in the past three days it comes right back up!

So here is our very first compromise, sweet boy- I promise to try to eat more often if you try really, really hard to not make me throw up immediately after. Deal?
With much love,
Your Mommy

ps- If you're feeling really generous I'd love to get 5 or 6 hours of sleep in a row, but I don't want to seem pushy or anything... Do the best you can!

4 Months!

We hit the 16 week mark- four more weeks and we will be halfway through! Our next appointment is Wed. (finally!) it seems like the past month has been forever...

Here is this weeks update-
Watch what you say, tiny bones forming in baby's ear mean that he can now pick up your voice. Eyebrows, lashes and hair are now filling in and taste buds are now forming!

15 weeks already!

Feels like I just barely updated this and here we are at 15 weeks already! Has so much fun visiting with family last week, it was wonderful to see everyone. The party was a great success, we had lots of friends and family there, a *ton* of yummy food and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
Thanks to Jason and Matt (and family!) we now have beautiful new track lighting in the kitchen and a new ceiling fan in the dining room. It is wonderful to not have to reach on my tippy toes to turn on the litchen light. :) The only downside is that now I can see how grungy the kitchen walls are and have added one more painting project to the list!

I think I may be starting to feel something... Twice this past week, as soon as I lie down on my side to go to bed, I have felt this light tapping feeling below my belly button. It almost feels like a bubble popping or someone 'typing' on my insides. Just a couple quick taps and then nothing... It's not strong enough to be definative yet, but I'll keep you updated!

Two weeks still to go until our next appointment and it feels like forever... This weekend should go quickly- we have the Fikstad family campout and the MMM event. We have to be at the meet-and-greet for the B&B candidates at the event on Saturday afternoon, but other than that we will most likely be spending most of our time at the campout.

Here is this weeks update-

Continuing the march toward normal proportions, your baby's legs now out measure his arms and all four limbs have functional joints. Baby is now squirming and wiggling like crazy in the womb, but you may not quite feel it for another couple weeks.
